Crazy artificial cloud concept idea for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

This one’s quite ambitious! Essentially a giant solar quadcopter shielding the stadiums from the blistering Qatar heat, which in June and July get up to a toasty 50°C.

Qatar were announced as hosts in December, and Fifa president Sepp Blatter initially said he expected the 2022 competition to be moved to winter. Qatar beat Australia, Japan, South Korea and the United States to host the tournament in the vote held by Fifa’s executive committee on 2 December 2010 in Zurich.

Indoor Drones-eye view of NY library

Cool little edit from inside a public library showing some of the processes of book sorting. Would have been nice to see the full process but cool nonetheless!

Wrangling special-order books and DVDs between the New York Public Libary’s 150 branches is a daunting task, but it’s actually made surprisingly efficient with the laser scanning machines at its Queens sorting facility.

Piloting indoors can be difficult and takes a ...

National Geographic Drone Photography Competition

Eric Dupin set up the website Dronestagram, an Instagram alternative focussing solely on aerial snaps

The site’s founder Eric Dupin told the BBC, drone photography quite literally offers a whole new perspective.

“It depicts a new vision of the world, with stunning images taken from low altitude, near field,” he said.

“It is so different of images taken by satellite or plane or helicopter, or, on the other end, street view images. It represents an ‘intermediary layer’.”

The Flying Robot Penguin!

The AirPenguin, created by German automation company Festo, is an autonomous penguin-like drone that can move around freely in a defined air space through a microcontroller.

With the rise of smaller drones (like the DJI Phantom) taking to the skies for personal uses, it means things we would never normally see are captured from the unique birdseye perspective. Imagine getting back to your friend to check out the footage and seeing that! I think if that was us operating the camera we would have given them ...

Beautiful surfing filmed from above…

Wow. The Phantom strikes again, some of the nicest GoPro aerial surfing shots we’ve seen. What an incredible location.

“In June of 2014, we spent 11 days surfing the Mentawai Islands. The conditions were perfect the entire trip with light offshore winds and plenty of swell to go around. I was able to capture some pretty interesting angles using Phyllis (name of my drone). Enjoy the highlights of our trip and experience the beauty of the Islands from above.” ...

Impressive footage of drone flying through fireworks…

Update: This is currently under investigation with the FAA according to this news article.

This is one of those wish we had thought of it first kinda videos! Maybe we’ll have to wait till bonfire night (5th November) and try it ourselves (somewhere safely).

This footage was captured over in the US on the 4th July celebrations… Quite ironic that it was filming Chinese fireworks with a Chinese DJI Phantom but nonetheless the results were pretty fantastic! The drone made ...
